Alberta Hosts Summer Meeting of Canada’s Premiers in Edmonton

July 17, 2017 – Canada’s Premiers will meet July 18-19 at the Fairmont Hotel Macdonald in Edmonton, Alberta.

“I look forward to welcoming my fellow Premiers to Alberta,” said Alberta Premier Rachel Notley, who is the chair of the Council at the summer meeting. “I am pleased to have the opportunity to lead the discussions on important priorities that will benefit people across our country and make life better for families.”

On July 18, Premiers will talk about jobs and economic growth. Discussions will focus on Canada-U.S. relations, global trade and infrastructure.

On July 19, Premiers will discuss a range of issues including cannabis, criminal justice, and opioids.
A closing news conference is planned for the afternoon of July 19.

The Council of the Federation comprises all 13 provincial and territorial Premiers. It enables Premiers to work collaboratively, form closer ties, foster constructive relationships among governments, and show leadership on important issues that matter to Canadians.
