May 1, 2018 – Alberta Premier Rachel Notley, as Chair of the Council of the Federation, will lead the Canadian delegation at the 2018 Summit of North American Governors and Premiers. The Summit will take place on May 4-6, 2018, in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe will also attend the Summit, as will senior government officials from a number of other provinces. The Summit is being jointly hosted by the Council of the Federation (COF), the National Governors Association (NGA), and the National Conference of Governors of Mexico (CONAGO).
“Subnational leaders have a critical role to play in expanding trade, increasing competitiveness and supporting our highly-integrated supply chains,” said Alberta Premier Rachel Notley. “The Summit presents us with an important opportunity to exchange ideas and to build and deepen relationships with our counterparts in the U.S. and Mexico.”
The goal of the Summit is to advance cooperation by the leaders of the federated states of the world’s most dynamic continent, which generates a combined GDP of nearly $21 trillion per annum with a population of 486 million. The Summit will focus on economic development and trade through improvements and innovations in infrastructure and supply chain management, workforce development, and enhanced investment.
The inaugural Summit of North American Governors and Premiers took place in October 2015 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
The Council of the Federation comprises all 13 provincial and territorial Premiers. It enables Premiers to work collaboratively, form closer ties, foster constructive relationships among governments, and show leadership on important issues that matter to Canadians.
